Tosto che 'l castellan di Damiata
certificossi ch'era morto Orrilo,
la columba lasciò, ch'avea legata
sotto l'ala la lettera col filo.
Quella andò al Cairo; ed indi fu lasciata
un'altra altrove, come quivi è stilo:
sì che in pochissime ore andò l'aviso
